+ How can I book Atlantic Strings?

Fill out our booking form when you are ready to hire us for your event. We ask for a 20% deposit to reserve your date. We partner with HireNotes.com for online contracts and payment. The balance will be billed automatically the week before your event, no checks to mail! Give us a call if you need to change your credit card information.

+ How far will you travel?

Our rates include travel within 35 miles of Boston. We routinely travel further (Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket) but assess transportation fees.

+ The contract mentions breaks, how does that work?

A 10-minute break per hour is required when you hire musicians for longer than two hours. If you are hiring the group for a wedding ceremony & cocktail hour we consider the ceremony itself as a break.

+ Will you play outdoors?

Summer is a popular time for outdoor weddings. We are happy to accommodate, however shelter from direct sunlight and the elements is a MUST to protect our instruments. We're flexible about what provides shade, it can be an umbrella, pergola, awning or trees. If it rains, even just a little bit, we will need to move indoors. We also have a 60 degree temperature minimum.

+ Can you work with other musicians?

We are happy to work with singers but they should provide us with a copy of their music so we can literally be on the same page and in the same key. A piano score is fine or we can commission an arrangement if needed.

+ Do you play for memorial services?

Yes, please contact us for more information.

+ What do the musicians wear for the event?

Our dress code is typically a black suit with long black tie for male players, black trousers or skirt with white top and black jacket or cardigan for women. You can also request black tie for more elegant events.

+ Can you learn a new song for our ceremony?

Absolutely. Let us know a few weeks before your event so that we have time to order music or create an arrangement if necessary. We will bill you for the cost of purchasing new music.

+ Do you need electricity or amplification?

We are an acoustic group, so we do not provide amplification. It is best for the musicians to be seated close to the guests and we recommend a string trio or quartet for larger events. If you feel strongly about amplification, your DJ may be able to provide a mic for your string ensemble.

+ When should the music start?

Music should start according to your preference. Wedding music should typically start 15-30 minutes before the ceremony, as your guests are arriving.

+ What instruments are in a string quartet?

Two violins, viola and cello. The best option, the most balanced harmony and the fullest sound.

+ What instruments are in a string trio?

Violin, viola & cello. Same instrumentation as a quartet less one player. Our second most popular option

+ Do you need to attend the wedding rehearsal?

Usually it's not necessary. We will work with you to create a detailed ceremony plan. The plan will include your requests, cues and any special directions for the day. The final version of this plan will be the musical blueprint for the wedding day.

+ What if we change the time of our event?

Let us know if you adjust the timing, there are no additional fees as long as you maintain the same time frame. Please give us 30 days notice to ensure availability.

+ What if one of the musicians gets sick or is unable to play for some reason?

We have a number of musicians in our group; there are several players waiting in the wings if someone is unable to play for some reason. We work together in dozens of events every year so you won't be getting an unqualified replacement. See musician bios here

+ What time will you arrive?

Thirty minutes before playing time.

+ What if the event starts late?

It's always better to plan for additional time in advance. We understand that life happens and will do our best to be flexible within a range of ten minutes. Beyond that overtime rates will apply.

+ What do you need on site?

Parking when applicable, armless chairs, adequate lighting and a closet or space to keep our cases out of the way. We bring our own music stands and instruments with the exception of piano. When hiring a pianist we will presume that your venue has an instrument unless we have discussed otherwise.
